You may have seen some adverts on the TV lately featuring boxing heavyweight world champion, Anthony Joshua and award-winning actor and singer Sheridan Smith talking about supporting local and the importance of Google My Business (GMB) for businesses in their hometown.
Now, more than ever we are looking to support local businesses through the tough times of the pandemic and beyond. At Sizzle, we echo Google’s thoughts; we want to make sure you are in the best place for your customers to find you online and give your business the best chance of attracting new customers. Here is an example of our profile (Figure 1):
Think about it…when you are researching a place to buy from, eat at, drink at, etc. You will Google what you require, and a list of local businesses will appear as long as they have a listing. The more developed, most relevant profiles with good reviews will rank highly, giving you a great chance of being contacted by that person. Take a look at the listings in the search results when you search ‘cake shop Cwmbran’ (Figure 2), you can see on the map the locations of the shops and the results which Google has decided are most suitable are listed at the top. The better the profile, the higher the ranking, the more chance of attracting the customer.
GMB is an incredibly powerful (and entirely free!) tool that you can use to boost your business’ online presence particularly in your local area. Quite simply, if you own a business with a premises, you need to set up your GMB profile, and if you already have a listing, you need to ensure it is full of useful information, such as accurate opening times, contact details, the address accompanied with recent photos and lots of reviews.
