Marketing is a term that encompasses many different activities, both online and offline, such as TV advertising, social media, Pay-Per-Click (PPC), print media… the list goes on and on. The typical goal of marketing is to encourage an individual or a group to an action that is desirable to your organisation, whether that be a sale, sign up, subscribe or any other form of interaction.
Marketing to good effect takes time and your business needs to be in the consumers mind for when they are looking for what you offer. Generally, it is unlikely that a potential customer will buy from a business that they have never heard of. It is often theorised that there is a ‘rule of seven’ when it comes to marketing and interactions. The ‘rule of seven’ quite simply states that it takes an average of seven interactions with your brand before a purchase will take place. These interactions do not have to be adverts, they can simply be passing your shop or seeing your logo. However, the majority of the interactions will be stem from your marketing efforts such as your social media and PPC campaigns.
To increase the number of interactions, a very powerful tool is remarketing which is…you guessed it…re-advertising your business to those who have already interacted with your business. You can re-target those who landed on your website with an ad to encourage them to come back to your website to take another look. This is obviously a great weapon for businesses as you are marketing to people who have already shown an interest in what you do, this makes for very effective advertising. Remarketing is available on social media and search engine ad providers such as Google. These ads serve as a reminder that the consumer visited your website, increasing the interactions with your brand and potentially bringing them back to your website to take the action you want as a business owner such as a purchase.
Remarketing is obviously a very powerful tool in the online strategy of the marketeer; however, it gets better, have you heard of dynamic remarketing? Even if you have not, it is almost certain that you have been dynamically remarketed to. Essentially, dynamic remarketing is the process of coding your website to anonymously track what pages and products consumers viewed on your website, then remarketing the specific product or service back to that same person when they are on another platform or another site. We have all been there where we are browsing the internet and then the next advert, we see is for something we have been searching for, and we feel like we are being watched by the FBI. This is simply a form of remarketing, and it is a very effective method of digital marketing, with a superior return on investment to standard online marketing such as display advertising.
